CONCERTS IN 2015

We started the year with our now traditional Candlemas Concert on 31st January in St John's Broadbridge Heath.

Our second concert was a programme of music reflecting life from the medieval Carmina Burana manuscript, coupled with songs of love by the nineteenth century composer Brahms. This concert was in St Michael's, Partridge Green on Saturday 16th May.

Our third outing of the year was on Saturday 17th October. The programme included the Missa Sancti Aloysii by Michael Haydn, the under-rated brother of the more famous Joseph, and a beautiful Magnificat by the French Baroque composer Charpentier. Both these pieces were accompanied by strings and organ. There were also motets plus psalm and canticle settings

A rare chance to hear some of the songs from the original medieval Carmina Burana manuscript - NOT the version by Carl Orff! Recorders, violins and percussion support the singers in songs about life in all its variety - drinking, morality, greed, love and the joys of spring all feature.

In contrast, Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes focus on the ups and downs of love. This collection of short songs is accompanied by piano duet.

Carols for Candlemas

The sound of female voices singing in close harmony is something to be experienced: if you haven’t tried it then come and join Cantilena’s regular followers at their next concert on Saturday 31st January 2015 at 7.30 pm in St John’s Church, Broadbridge Heath , RH12 3LD, where you will find a lovely acoustic, comfortable chairs and beautiful singing, plus refreshments after the concert!

We will be celebrating five years of singing together in this our 15th concert!

The concert is a look back at Christmas before it really does finish (Candlemas, on February 2nd, was traditionally the end of the season of Christmas) with a variety of carols and Christmas music plus readings of topical poetry and prose. Add in a mulled drink and mince pies and you have all you need to dispel those January blues!
